2010 Tournament Rules

STARTING THINGS OFF

DO OR DIE!!

To determine which team will have first possession of the ball, a member of the home team will shoot a three point shot.  If the ball goes in, that team will have first possession.  If the ball does not go in, the visiting team will have first possession.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

There will be pools of 4 teams in each pool. Each team will play 3 games on Saturday against the other teams in their pool. At the end of Saturday all teams will be seeded 1-32 after round robin play on Saturday. Seeding will be based first on number of wins and second on points for / points against ratio. The top 16 teams will advance to the Champions Bracket and teams 17-32 will advance to the Consolation Bracket both to be played on Sunday. Sunday's brackets will be single-elimination style.

Starting play:

Each game will start by checking the ball to the defender.  A check ball is simply a bounce pass to whoever is guarding you and they pass it back to you to show that they are ready to commence.  A check ball will occur after every basket.

GAME PLAY

Length of Games:

Saturday Games: Games will be played to a score of 15 points, or the first team to win after 25 minutes of running time.

Sunday Games (excluding Champion & Consolation Finals): Games will be played to a score of 15 points, or the first team to win after 25 minutes of running time.

Championship & Consolation Finals: Games will be played to a score of 15 points, but you must win by 2 points.

Overtime:

If the game is tied after 25 minutes of play, the score is reset to 0 - 0 and the two teams will play without a time clock. First team to 3 points wins.

Losers ball:

Ball possession changes after each basket. And play is then started off with a check ball.

Stalling:

Stalling with the ball is prohibited.  A court referee may issue a 24 second shot clock at any point of the game after a warning is given.

Scoring:

Each basket made inside the arc is worth 1 point.  If a basket is made from beyond the arc, 2 points are awarded.

Substitutions:

The fact that there are 4 people per team allows you to make substitutions.  Substitutions can be made only after a stop in play, which means after a basket, an out of bounds, or after a foul is called.

Please note that a maximum of 4 players may register and play on a team, you may not add additional players or swap players as the tournament progresses. The 4 players who who check-in the Saturday morning of the tournament are the only players eligible to play for that team. Violations may result in disqualification from a particular game, or disqualification from the tournament. Please report any concerns or discrepancies to the tournament organizers.

Time Outs:

Each team is allowed 1 time-out per game.  To call a time out, your team must be in possession of the ball and call “Time-Out” to the game official.  The time out will be recorded on the score sheet, and will be timed for 30 seconds. Players must return to the court before the 30-seconds is up, failure to do so may result in time being added back on to the game.

Clearing the Ball:

In the case where a change of possession occurs during game play, you must completely “clear” the ball before scoring a point.  To clear the ball, you must bring the ball over the two-point arc with both feet.  Clearing the ball ONLY occurs when there is a change of possession.

FOULS:

When a player is fouled, that player shall regain possession of the ball at the top of the arc and will check it to the defender.  The person who calls a foul is either the person who had possession of the ball, the person guarding him/her or the court official.

An honor system is in effect throughout the tournament so please be honest and fair when it comes to these calls.

Boundaries:

The court boundaries will be marked with a solid line around the perimeter of the court.  The top of the backboard is also considered out of bounds.

After the Game:

After the game both team captains should verify the score sheet and initial it to ensure all of their points were accurately recorded.

Sportsmanship:

Good sportsmanship is expected.  Shooting for Angels is a fun event for people of all ages.  Please be courteous in this matter.

QUESTIONS:

Any question prior to the game can be directed towards any volunteer or court official.  Any questions which you may have during game-play are to be directed towards the court official only.
